Ciera Martinez, biodiversity and environmental sciences lead at the Berkeley Institute for Data Science, has always had a passion for plants. Now she has turned that passion toward addressing some of the biggest environmental issues, such as mitigating California’s wildfires. This animation explores Ciera’s journey to UC Berkeley, where she works alongside other data science researchers excited to collaborate in the Gateway, the new nexus of computing and data science opening in 2025.
