Helping students find their people, place, and passions

In this video, you’ll hear from one of the architects of the L&S First-Year Pathways program, as well as some of the undergrads who have found it invaluable in fostering a sense of belonging and intellectual purpose in their first year at school.

L&S First-Year Pathways offers thematically linked course clusters consisting of a unique “hub” course and two “wing” courses taught by esteemed Berkeley professors. In the hub courses, students meet in a cohort of 25 for seminars and enrichment activities. For the larger, lecture-style wing classes, students maintain their cohort for discussion sessions, ensuring they can learn and grow alongside fellow Pathways students.

Importantly, all three courses fulfill separate L&S breadth requirements, enabling students to make degree progress from the very start of their academic journey.
