The building will provide dynamic opportunities for instruction in all disciplines as well as advising for undergraduates enrolled in the College of Letters & Science (L&S).
State-of-the-art facilities on the first three floors will be dedicated to academic instruction, including 27 new classrooms of varying sizes that include the most modern instructional technologies.
The building, set to open in 2026, incorporates a host of green building features that are all in line with UC Berkeley’s long-term sustainability goals. It will operate on electricity only; many water-use reduction strategies will be implemented; and its mass timber construction means a 54 percent carbon reduction and the promotion of more sustainable forests on the planet.
UC Berkeley’s friends and supporters have opportunities to name these dynamic spaces and provide support for lecturers, graduate instructors, and programs. With your partnership, we can ensure our talented, deserving undergraduates can make the most of their Berkeley journey and step out into the world with the tools they need to shape the future.

Just a few of the exciting features of the new building.
“L&S is the beating heart of the university,” says L&S Executive Dean Jennifer Johnson-Hanks, “where students develop the knowledge and skills to not only understand the world around them but also to improve it. The new undergraduate academic building will provide a welcoming campus home where students can discover both their academic passions and their campus community.”
Be recognized for your commitment to undergrad education!
