Berkeley breaks ground on new Engineering Center
The College of Engineering celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Engineering Center in 2023, amid cheers from hundreds of benefactors, staff, faculty, and students.
A new space for a new generation of leaders
Opening in spring 2025, the Engineering Center will provide a space like no other on campus, one that puts innovation, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and inclusion at its core for future leaders. Overlooking Memorial Glade, the building — the “heart” of Berkeley Engineering — will serve as a central hub for the north side of campus, hosting academic and social events in addition to advising, tutoring, and career services. Its open, light-filled design invites connections and teamwork, fostering the type of transformative educational experiences that will empower students to become future leaders who will make a better world for all. “This is a place where collaboration will become ingrained as part of what we will do every day in our careers,” says Allison Nguyen ’22, former president of the Society of Women Engineers. “This space reflects innovation. It sparks creativity!”
“I have no doubt that the next planet-changing, economy-boosting, era-defining technology leader will emerge from this building, armed with a Berkeley Engineering degree and fueled by ideas seeded here in collaboration with fellow students and faculty across the campus.” — Charles Giancarlo M.S. ’80, Chair, Berkeley Engineering Advisory Board
